Sunlight - The Natural Way To Absorb Vitamin D

Thanks to the tanning craze, the sun has gotten a bad rep. Yes, the sun does emit radiation- but in the right amounts, the sunlight is beneficial, and actually essential, to your body’s health. Let’s get the facts about sunlight straight.

First, sunlight allows our bodies to naturally manufacture Vitamin D. Vitamin D, the “sunshine vitamin”, is said to help fight cardiovascular diseases and aid in cancer prevention and recovery. Deficiency of Vitamin D, on the other hand, can lead to impeded growth and various bone deficiency disorders.

Sunlight also induces endorphins, which are the “good feeling” hormones of the body. That’s why studies show that people who get more sunlight are less likely to fall victim to depression.

It’s sad that more and more Americans are using “sunlight causes skin cancer” as an excuse for staying indoors. Less and less Americans are going outdoors, which helps explain the higher levels of obesity, less social interaction and vitamin deficient members of society today.

In moderate amounts (10-15 minutes of sunlight is the recommended dose), sunlight plays an important role in your body’s physical health and mental well being. Take a break from your job or studies and spend a few minutes outside in the sun- your body will thank you for it!
