4th of July: Still Full from the 4th?

Posted by Arnold Yu July 06, 2009.

If you’re anything like me, the Fourth of July probably means BBQ’s – and lots of them. We’re talking burgers, hot dogs, BBQ beans, creamed corn, hot dogs, chips, soda, ice cream, pies, etc. And after all the festivities are over, you come back to work only to discover that you have a new found friend from the weekend: a donut around your waist, a protruding potbelly, or some extra meat on your rear end. Help!

Of course, one weekend of feasting won’t kill you. With some easy tips, you should be feeling back to normal (and have lost those extra pounds) by the end of the week.

First of all, get off your butt. Literally. The majority of our exercise comes in the form of everyday chores, whether it’s walking to the garbage to take out the trash, washing the dishes, or vacuuming the home. Did you know house cleaning for an hour can burn more than 200 calories? Do a little extra work here and there and it will add up to major shedding of pounds.

Of course, extra exercise always helps.

Take thirty to forty five minutes a day to do some light exercise.

If it’s a nice day outside, go swimming or take a jog around the neighborhood. I find that exercising with friends helps, because friends not only encourage you to keep going, but chatting and catching up with one another will make time fly.

And lastly, the most important part is to stick to a healthy diet.

After consuming so many fatty foods over the weekend, give your body the food with HEALTHY nutrients it needs to function.

Chips and ice cream don’t give you any real energy – so run to the grocery store and pick up some fruits, whole grains, protein, and vegetables. If you feel healthy, you’ll be able to exercise that weight off even faster.

Follow these tips, and your body will be back to great shape in no time!
